Ruby feeds the hungry

Roubi and her mother are holding charity ‘Iftars,’ holiday meals for the Muslim holy month Ramadan, in the neighborhood where she was raised. Providing food for the needy during Ramadan, referred to as ‘Mawa’ed Al Rahman’ (The Merciful’s Feasts), has become a trend among many Egyptian artists.

Two years ago Roubi, along with her mother and sister Kooky, moved out of their old neighborhood. “I have great memories of our neighborhood,” said Ruby, and people always there always extended their support. Ruby still visits since she has many family members living there.

On a different note, Ruby has failed the bar examination to allow her to practice law in Egypt for a third time, and has fallen into a state of depression.

Ruby was in shock when she read her name on the list of people who failed the exam. She had dedicated her time to studying over the past few months, even turning down several offers to hold concerts.

Ruby’s younger sister, Kooky, said that her sister was so sure she would pass the exam this year that she had made arrangements with a major law firm in Egypt to begin as an associate.

Initially, Ruby said she would not make a fourth attempt, but her mother and sister have convinced her otherwise.
